Overview
Zirconium is a hard, silvery metal with low neutron absorption, high power and high corrosion resistance under special conditions. Zirconium has a low neutron absorption cross section and is resistant to the corrosive environment of nuclear reactors. Excellent resistance to most common acids, bases, seawater and other agents. Often used in chemical plants, surgical instruments, explosive primers, etc.
Overview
Hafnium is a lustrous, silvery, malleable metal in a tightly packed hexagonal crystal structure. Hafnium is also a good neutron absorber and has a very high melting point. The application fields are as electrodes in plasma cutting, in gas-filled lamps and incandescent lamps, as getters in vacuum tubes, as control rods in nuclear power plants, etc.
